Department of Interventional Radiology

It is one of the most important branches of the Radiology Department and includes highly qualified consultant doctors who have the ability to perform mini-surgeries under direct radiology.

Interventional radiology is distinguished from traditional surgeries in that the operations are performed by local anesthesia in a simple and easy way without the need for a scalpel, and it is also characterized by the short recovery period of the patient.

The department's goal is to improve the provision of the latest interventional radiology treatments available globally to patients for various vascular diseases, liver and kidney diseases, and benign uterine fibers, in addition to treating cancerous tumors and many other different diseases.

Department of Magnetic Resonance

The radiology department represented in the magnetic resonance department contains the latest technology in the field of medical imaging in addition to the presence of doctors and radiographers who are distinguished in diagnostic imaging, as the department is equipped with two magnetic resonance imaging devices: the first with a power of 1.5 Tesla and the second with a power of 3 Tesla, both of the type Gi.

The purpose of the versatility is to obtain the advantages of both models, which will be of the greatest benefit to patients.

The Resonance Department provides the most important and accurate imaging services available, through the use of advanced imaging methods whose mission is to assist doctors in formulating the optimal medical care plan for patients.

The Department of Magnetic Imaging is an important and main center that serves a large group of inpatients, outpatients and patients referred from all hospitals in the Sultanate who need these advanced examinations to reach an accurate and correct diagnosis in order to obtain the best treatment methods.

The resonance department receives various medical cases from all branches of surgery and internal medicine in addition to the pediatric departments, as the department has all the necessary equipment to perform the various tests under anesthesia.

The department provides its services 24 hours a day to cover the needs of the hospital's emergency department, and all urgent examinations and requests from inpatient wards.

The department aims to continue providing the best medical diagnostic services and upgrading services to the best international levels.

Department of Pediatric Radiology

Pediatric radiology at the Royal Hospital is a single specialized department characterized by the diagnosis of diseases of children, especially the intractable ones, which are transferred to the hospital from all parts of the Sultanate, and therefore using the latest equipment and with the presence of high skills and experience by the medical staff.

Diagnosis is made by several types of radiological and non-radiological imaging:

  • X-ray: These use very little radiation and are often used to diagnose chest and heart diseases, intestinal obstructions and bone diseases.
  • Florouscopy radioscopy: It is often used to visualize the esophagus, intestine and some kidney diseases by giving a colored substance.
  • Ultrasound: It is used as a preliminary imaging of most diseases in children as it does not contain any harmful type of radiation.
  • Computed tomography (CT): X-rays are used, but also in degrees much less than usual due to the presence of the latest CT scan devices. Despite this, its use falls under the necessary conditions, such as tumors, chest and brain diseases.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI): This type of imaging does not contain any type of radiation, but imaging with it takes at least half an hour and most cases are done under full anesthesia and is used to diagnose nervous system diseases, tumors and various other diseases.
  • Interventional imaging: This imaging is a type of mini-surgical procedures in which the operation is carried out under direct guidance from the x-rays without the need for a surgical scalpel and it includes mini-surgeries such as those concerned with taking samples from the patient's internal organs and tumors, in which intravenous nutrients are introduced using radiation for different ages of inpatients Other procedures aimed at reducing the patient's recovery period after the procedure and avoiding major surgeries as much as possible.

Department of mammography

In the department of mammography we have female doctors who specialize in this unique area and it contains a mammogram and ultrasound.

We use these devices for examination and diagnosis of various breast diseases.

The department also contains interventional radiology devices to conduct sampling operations using local anesthesia without the need for surgery.

The department, in cooperation with the Department of Breast Surgery, the Department of Oncology, and the rest of the various departments in the Department of Radiology, aims to early diagnosis of various breast tumors and to provide the best treatment and follow-up methods for patients.

Department of sonography

The ultrasound unit in the Radiology Department of the Royal Hospital receives hospitalized patients from all departments and lobbies, in addition to patients referred from outpatient and emergency clinics and health centers in the Sultanate.

The unit is equipped with the latest ultrasound imaging devices, as it consists of two examination rooms, with mobile imaging devices available to examine serious cases within the concerned admission departments.

Ultrasound exams include all areas of the body in addition to the Doppler examination, and these rays are characterized as safe rays that do not expose patients to the dangers of x-rays and thus are suitable for pregnant patients and children.

The goals of the unit are to provide rapid and accurate diagnosis of cases without exposure to the risk of radiation, which helps in determining the treatment plan for patients by the concerned doctors as quickly and accurately as possible and for the largest possible number of patients and with the latest and most accurate devices.
